Challenge
The Collab’s vision called for more than a lightweight forum: creators and brands needed spaces, memberships, benefits, payments, and real-time community activity in one coherent product — a social layer plus loyalty and community-management tooling that still felt fast and trustworthy on phones and desktops.
Approach
Treated the Django service as the system of record: REST APIs, background jobs, Stripe-backed commerce, and Channels-driven notifications consumed by both web and mobile.
Implemented The Collab’s product and UX direction in React with a disciplined UI layer (including Tailwind and shared design primitives) so creator, member, and admin flows stayed consistent as features grew.
Delivered native iOS and Android clients in React Native (Expo) against the same contracts, prioritizing patterns that work on spotty connectivity and meeting store release expectations.
“We don't invent numbers. What we publish matches what clients are comfortable having on the record.”
Outcome
Commonspace ships as a unified social, loyalty, and community-management stack — one domain model across web and native, delivered as a single backend service with matching web and mobile clients.
Product design by The Collab; ongoing engineering on Commonspace (Django, React web, React Native).
